Canada will continue to seek the promotion and protection of universal human rights, and to support those who work for their realization.

The Government of Canada pursues these objectives by working closely with other governments, Indigenous peoples, civil society, international organizations and the private sector. Canada works multilaterally, bilaterally and through international trade, development and consular assistance, to strengthen the rules-based international order that protects universal human rights, democracy and respect for the rule of law. Promoting respect for human rights is at the heart of Canada’s international policies and engagement. They expect their government to help build respect for human rights at home and around the world.
